What other types of refractive procedures are available?
As previously mentioned, Laser Vision Correction is not for everyone. The Omaha Eye & Laser Institute and The Lincoln Eye & Laser Institute offers other refractive procedures that may be more appropriate for some of our patients.

Other refractive procedures that we offer include:

Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK)
PRK is similar to LASIK in that the same Excimer laser sculpts the cornea. However, in PRK no flap is created. Instead, the laser is applied to the front of the cornea after the epithelium has first been removed from the central cornea. This procedure has similar success rates to LASIK and is often used in patients who have thinner corneas or do not want to have a flap. PRK has a slower recovery time for clear vision with some added discomfort but is a good option for many patients.

Refractive Lensectomy (also known as a Clear Lens Replacement Surgery)
This procedure can be an option for patients with high degrees of refractive error who aren’t good candidates for LASIK. A special intra-ocular lens actually replaces the natural lens. Astigmatism can be treated at the same time. Improved vision is achieved almost immediately. To find out if you are a good candidate for the Refractive Lensectomy procedure, please e-mail Lincoln Eye & Laser Institute today at info@omahaeye.com.

Implantable Contact Lens (ICLs)
This internal (intraocular) contact lens device allows patients with high degrees of myopic another option for dramatically improving their nearsightedness. Unlike Refractive Lensectomy, or Cataract surgery, the natural lens is not removed. Instead, the ICL is placed in front of the natural lens. Most ICL patients see a remarkable improvement in their vision very quickly. Click here for details.

Conductive Keratoplasty (CK)
CK is a non-laser procedure that can reduce or eliminate the need for reading glasses. It is best suited for people over the age of 40 who want to reduce their dependency on bifocals or reading glasses. Click here for details.
