Dr. John Liu is one of the most experienced eye surgeons in our region having performed thousands of laser and microsurgical procedures utilizing the latest techniques and technology available today. He specializes in cataract, refractive, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.

Dr. John Liu is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Purdue University and the University of Puerto Rico. He completed his internship and ophthalmology residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas in 1986. Dr. Liu served as a Major in the United States Army and Army Reserve until is honorable discharge in 1990. His positions during that time included being the Health Clinic Director at Ft. Ritchie, Maryland and the Chief of Ophthalmology at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. In 1989 he completed his Fellowship in Glaucoma at the University of Illinois Eye Center in Chicago. He assumed his present position of Medical Director of The Omaha Eye & Laser Institute in July 1989.

Dr. John Liu was American Board Certified in Ophthalmology in 1987. He has been a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology since 1983 and a Fellow in the Academy since 1989. He participates regularly in continuing education programs around the country and was one of the first surgeons to introduce clear cornea cataract surgery and a variety of refractive surgical procedures to the Omaha area. Dr. Liu is also one of the few fellowship trained glaucoma specialists in private practice in Nebraska.

Dr. Liu was raised in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Because of his diverse cultural and academic background, Dr. Liu is fluent in English, Spanish, and Chinese.
