What Are Cataracts?

A cataract is a cloudy area in the natural lens of the eye that affects vision. As a cataract develops, the eye’s lens gradually becomes hard and cloudy, allowing less light to pass through, making it more difficult to see.

Cataracts are the most common age-related eye condition and the leading cause of preventable blindness. Cataracts are treated by removing the eye’s cloudy natural lens and surgically replacing it with an intraocular lens or IOL.

What Are the Most Common Cataract Symptoms?

Symptoms vary from person to person. However, common symptoms include blurred vision, light sensitivity, poor night vision, dull color vision, reduced vision in bright light, impaired depth perception, difficulty in seeing distances, and numerous changes in glasses prescriptions to accommodate changes in vision.

Innovative Technology with Intraocular Lenses

During your cataract exam and preoperative measurement visit, your eye doctor will assist you in selecting a cataract lens implant for vision correction and clarity.

Monofocal IOLs

Monofocal lens implants are standard IOLs that uniformly correct vision at one distance, requiring you to wear visual aids at the uncorrected distance.

Multifocal IOLs

Multifocal cataract lens implants can be employed by your cataract surgeon to address vision correction at various distances – near, intermediate, and far.

Toric IOLs

Toric lens implants can be utilized to correct astigmatism, reducing the need for glasses post-cataract surgery.

PanOptix IOLs

PanOptix IOLs are trifocal IOLs. These IOLs can correct vision at various distances, including up close, far away, and intermediate distances. The PanOptix trifocal IOL reduces reliance on visual aids after cataract surgery.

Light Adjustable Lens IOLs

The Light Adjustable Lens delivers superior visual outcomes that non-adjustable IOLs cannot match. This lens allows us to modify its power after it has been placed in your eye.

Once locked in after two final light treatments, the Light Adjustable Lens provides patients with permanent customized vision.
